PBBANS ISSUE RESOLVED

Postby JCORPS » Wed Aug 19, 2009 11:16 pm

For those that haven't seen it yet. It will have a definite effect on a lot of us that use them as per policy here for our servers.

Found this posted on http://www.mycallofduty.com by Lothegard and backed up by {PST}Joker and Jock Yitch from http://www.bashandslash.com

Source: http://www.eurodomination.net/forum/vie ... =21&t=5263

Found this at Euro Dominations homepage

PBBans, our partner in beating the "cheaters" and maintaining a cheat-free league, has officially closed its doors.

PBBans wrote:I hate to have to report this news, but PBBans has closed its doors.

Over the past few weeks they have been being hit by a DDOS attack on their server. Today they had another attack and the hosting company would not help them overcome the attack. They would have to move to another hosting company to solve the problem which would cost a lot of money, time, and effort.

The time and effort put in by all the staff members at PBBans has been enormous. But a year or so back, they lost one of the two main coders for the website because Evenbalance would not fix a problem with Punkbuster that allowed for bans to be spoofed. This left MaydaX to code the website and keep it running. Him, along with the founder, Rodeobob, now want to get back to their families and lives, so they are closing the doors to PBBans.

Eurodomination Website

Unfortunately this affects the functionality of some areas of our website, in particular the Server Checker, adding servers and adding new GUIDs. Unfortunately some of those services will be unavailable whilst we go through the website's hard code and remove the PBBans-related dependancies. As for the Server Checker, that is effectively rendered useless for the time being.

Upcoming Fixtures

Upcoming fixtures will still be played as planned. However, without the Server Checker teams will have to manually check the opposition are playing with the correct GUIDs. You can use any of the following console commands to do this:

/rcon status (With rcon)
/pb_plist (Without rcon)

Remember, when checking the opposition's GUIDs don't forget to check the opposition's global play status, you can do that by visiting the opposition's team roster.

Cheat-Free Gaming

Despite this great loss. We still have measures and ties with other AC organisations to maintain a cheat-free gaming experience. However, in the meantime all teams are reccomended (not required) to stream to Game Violations whilst we are actively investigating alternatives to ensure E-Dom maintains its cheat free ethos.

To stream to Game Violations, edit your pbsvlog.cfg and remove the hashes (//) from lines that are relating to Game Violations.

Another quote

"PBBans 2003 - 2009

Well I don't really know what to say, but as the title says PBBans 2003 - 2009 that's it, PBBans has finished. To be honest I'm lost for words, I didn't see this coming. Over the last few days we've had a series of Ddos attacks & this last one is the biggest we've ever had and has forced us to close up shop. The PBBans servers have already been canceled & will be shipped back to RodeoBob tomorrow or within the next few days. From everyone at PBBans, thanks for all the support over the last few years, It was good while it lasted.

From now on if we don't stream then it's back to the old school default 2 minute PB kick for anyone booted for a PB violation, yep 2minutes

They'll dish out a few hundred global bans every now and then after doing their silent detections, that's logging people using x hack, but doing nothing at the time & then at a later date, after a 'maintenance update'.. mass ban people for it. Global GUID ban covers all PB enabled servers, streaming or not.

Stream to psb, rep streaming (nothing live) they don't ban for demos & their staff are all ****ing idiots, psb is a business not an anti-cheat community, it's lawyers & legal action should you say the wrong thing.

Stream to gv, setup by people banned from PBBans for trying to fake logs and get innocent people banned, PBBans banned hackers on the staff list, spoofed bans on their ban list, a 3rd rate reject pro-cheat site, they can **** off.

Up **** creek without a paddle would be an understatement right now & I think allot of servers will also shut down because of this.

Even worse:-

Right now I'm trying to get a recent pbbans.dat (ban file) because at the moment, not one server has one that's been recently updated as we used PBBans enforce bans flag which meant no need for pbbans.dat, there is one, but hardly anything in it. Basically anyone that was on the PBBans MBI before all this can join our servers and play, I should have downloaded it before this, sorry.

Couldn't have happend to a better bunch of *****'s, in my book.

However, regardless of my dislike for their Admins, it is their goal I do support. I had an unknown person register for our forums and suggest ddos attacks against their server, he was banned from our website on the same day. I may still have that information for those who may be interested.

I'm sure steps to identify the threat is already underway.

None the less, if it proves to be of value in resolving the issue. It should go a long way to hopefully mend the bridge over the troubled waters.

If you're willing to send it over, I can pass it along to them for review and follow up.

Thanx for the update T. I hadn't had a chance to make it over to post it yet.

I have to laff when I think of all the monkeys that thought they were getting their slates wiped clean with the initial post by Ace that pbbans was gone.

What a load of crap. You dislike the admins yet you support their ideals? The admins and staff did everything by the book, by what has been set down in stone as the rules and guidelines. You just didn't follow simple instructions to clarify and straighten out simple things that came up. You contradict yourself in claiming to support the very goal and ideals that they have set years ago. The system that they have set up have been in place for months. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. You never supported them nor did you even supported PunkBuster as a system. How can anyone believe a single word you say when you claim that you support the PBBans staff's goal?

If you truly wanted to support PBBans' goal and ideals, you would not have gone through all the absurdities when you tried to ask the AIX staff to grant your server ranked status.

Make up your mind. Do you support PBBans or not?

I do not know if I am official enough :) but here goes.
PBBans streaming is active at the moment but will be offline from Monday 24 August to facilitate a move to a new hosting company.
If all goes well we will be back in business Thursday/Friday, all that is required to continue streaming is the new ucon profile that we will issue as soon as we have it, and can be added prior to us coming back online so that your streaming kicks back in instantly.
Just for info, we are always under ddos attack, it comes with the territory and every attack has been successfully repelled.
The only reason that we are moving is because our current hoster (calpop) flat out refused to assist us in the same manner as they have before in repelling ddos attacks, its that simple.
If they had of given the same support as in the past we would not be moving.
The IP of the guy suggesting to FURION that he ddos PBBans was checked out within 10 minutes of the post appearing on his forums (just a random idiot) but thanks for the thought.
While I am on the subject :P
Anyone remotely interested in seeing in full how badly FURION was treated re his streaming application and wants an insight into how much he "supports our goal" can check out this link when we are fully up and running and make up their own mind;

Postby JCORPS » Fri Aug 28, 2009 11:58 am

Here's the email that went out from RodeoBob from PBBANS.

JCORPS,

LIVE FROM NEW YORK - ITS PBBANS.

Welcome back everyone; we hope you have enjoyed your time off. We have been extremely busy behind the scenes in preparing the servers and arranging for their shipment to the new host. Our servers have finished their long journey from Los Angeles and now up and running at their new home in New York City. As you can see we are online ahead of schedule thanks to the speedy install from our host and the servers arriving a day early. The PBBans Hub is online and is running smoothly. We will be updating all of our documentation to reflect the new Hub info over the next few days.

Please update your server's config files now to get your server streaming!

Be sure to check that your servers are streaming http://www.pbbans.com/account/index.php
New hub profile information can be found http://www.pbbans.com/info-center-hubguide.html
New Webtool can be found http://www.pbbans.com/account/webtool.php

If your servers were streaming but now are not, we would be happy to help you getting it streaming once again. Contact one of the Staff members today in our IRC channel: http://www.pbbans.com/irc/index.php

We received a great outpouring of support during our time of need and we want to express our sincerest thanks to those that donated, continue to donate and to those that offered to help. I also want to thank Art of War Central and Wolf Servers who provided a temp hosting solution for our status site.

The DDoS that was directed towards PBBans overwhelmed our previous host's network.. We were facing a dire situation. Our host failed to provide adequate protection for our servers and the DDoS stayed strong for several days. PBBans had struggled with the possibility that we would have to shut down. The key factors that we had to consider was obviously the DDoS, the very poor support that we were receiving from our host, and the amount of funds that we had on hand to facilitate moving to a new host. We have seen a couple of posts on other sites stating that this was all a PR stunt or a drive to pull cash into PBBans. I assure you that this was the furthest from the truth. In fact, if it weren't for the donations that we have received over the last week, we wouldn't be where we are today.

I want to personally thank everyone that have stuck with us, donated their time/funds, those kind words of support posted on our forums (http://www.pbbans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=100302), and a special thanks goes out to MaydaX for all his hard work keeping PBBans running smoothly....and hanging on for another ride.

Thanks again,

RodeoBob
